FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Plockton Hotel races ahead to support Macmillan
The team behind Plockton Hotel is celebrating once again as their annual Charity Race Night raised £2,225 for people affected by cancer. The popular fundraiser, which is in its fourth year, saw over 40 locals and tourists alike get together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support – and the evening’s total funds surpasses the total raised in previous years. The funds from Friday evening brings the total funds raised by Plockton Hotel since the Race Night began to £5,982.
This year’s event was in memory of James Manson, a joiner from Alness who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2011. He was given just three months to live, but after taking part in a drugs trial the cancer began to shrink. He went on to walk an 11-mile charity walk in aid of the Macmillan Cancer suite in Raigmore Hospital.
Previously, James had built a house in Balmacara to be nearer his daughters, Lynne and Jacqui, and his grandchildren. Upon diagnosis, James spent most of his time in Plockton and was the Plockton Hotel’s biggest Race Night supporter. In 2015 James – a huge football fan – sponsored a race himself, providing lots of Ross County goodies.
An inspiration to his family and everyone who met him, James sadly passed away in August 2015.
Previous Charity Race Night’s at Plockton Hotel has raised money for charities and causes including Prostate Cancer UK, Macmillan Nurses and British Heart Foundation.
Ann-Mags Pearson, Owner of Plockton Hotel said: “We’d like to thank every one who came along to the Charity Race Night on Friday, and helped us to celebrate the life of James Manson whilst raising money for a charity that was so close to his heart. We must also give a special thanks to all of the local businesses who sponsored races.”
James’ family travelled to see James’ beloved Ross County win the Scottish League Cup Final on Sunday.
Daughter Lynne MacLeod said “Our family would like to thank everyone who continues to support us, and all those who have raised money in my Dad’s name. Horse racing was one of his favourite activities and the Plockton Hotel was one of his favourite places, so this event was a perfect way to remember him.”
The next Annual Charity Race Night will take place in Spring 2017 and will be promoted via Plockton Hotel’s website (www.plocktonhotel.co.uk), on facebook.com/ThePlocktonHotel and on twitter @plocktonhotel
